(Stop the madness- adopt from shelters and rescues)

70,000 puppies and kittens are born every day in the U.S.

• Between four million and six million pets are put to sleep every year because they are homeless.

• That means between 11,000 and 16,000 pets are put to sleep every day.

• An animal in a shelter is killed every 1.5 seconds

• Only one animal in 10 born in the U.S. gets a good home that lasts a lifetime.
 

 I can't believe the hundreds of ads on Craig's list  selling puppies. It has become a part time job for some people. 10 puppies @ $75 = $750 X 2 a year = $1,500.00. 12 Lb Chi's, part Lab and part Pit pups. It just isn't right. I just saw a picture of our local shelter with 12 dogs in bags that were put down today. That's only 1 shelter. There are over 10,000 dogs being put down everyday in the United States! It's so sad. With today's economy many people have fallen on hard times and must give up their pets. If you want to adopt please adopt from these people, a shelter or rescue. You will get a pet that has it's shots, medications and is fixed for a very low price. Many of these pets have been trained and make excellent pets from the start.

 If you really want to stop this madness just flag ALL posts selling or giving away puppies from backyard breeders. It doesn't matter the situation because for every "puppy" sold on CL by one of these breeders one dies at the shelter. An "oops" litter is no excuse either because responsible pet owners fix their pets breeders don't.
 

 These backyard breeders and people who refuse to spay or neuter their dogs need to know that they can't sell them on CL and make a profit or just dump them on someone else. Please check out ALL Florida cities or cities in your state in the pet section and flag all puppy (puppies) ads except for the shelter or rescue ads. That's the only way we will stop this madness. If they have a hard time selling/dumping them, then maybe they will stop breeding their dogs and get them fixed.

 After you view the pet section go to the main page and type in "puppies" you will see most breeders now post in the sports, general and farm sections. In Florida, Tampa, Jacksonville and S. Florida are the worst for this. Please remember not to flag rescue or shelter ads because they are on our side.
